The influence of applied stress rate on the stress corrosion cracking of 4340 and 3.5NiCrMoV steels in distilled water at 30°C

چکیده
Linearly Increasing Stress Tests conducted in 30 C aerated distilled water using as-quenched 4340 and 3.5NiCrMoV turbine rotor steels indicated that stress corrosion cracking occurred at all applied stress rates for 4340 steel, whilst only at applied stress rates less than or equal to 0.002 MPa s 1 for the turbine rotor steel. The crack velocity increased with increasing applied stress rate for both steels with the maximum crack velocity for 4340 steel corresponded to vII in fracture mechanics tests in room temperature water. The fracture surface morphology was mixed mode consisting of intergranular and transgranular fracture regions. 2009 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

متن کاملAn Investigation on Corrosion and Stress Corrosion Cracking initiation of a Ferritic Stainless Steel in a Tertiary Amine Solution
The present study focused on stress corrosion cracking (SCC) and corrosion behavior of ferritic stainless steel (grade 430) in activated methyl diethanolamine (aMDEA) solution, which is classified as a tertiary amine. In this regard, cyclic polarization and U-bend tests were performed in CO2 loaded aMDEA with different concentrations at 25 and 70 °C to observe corrosion behavior and ...
متن کاملA Comparison of Hydrogen Embrittlement and Stress Corrosion Cracking in High Strength Steels
The purpose of this study was to compare the known behavior of hydrogen embrittled high-strength steel to the characteristics of environmentallyinduced stress corrosion failure where hydrogen is continuously generated at the specimen surface. The incubation time for the initiation of slow crack growth was accelerated by prestressing for a fixed time below the lower critical limit. These results...
متن کاملCharacteristics of Hydrogen Embrittlement, Stress Corrosion Cracking and Tempered Martensite Embrittlement in High-strength Steels
Characteristics of tempered martensite embrittlement (TME), hydrogen embrittlement (HE), and stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in high-strength steels are reviewed. Often, it is important to determine unambiguously by which of these mechanisms failure occurred, in order to suggest the right actions to prevent failure recurrence. To this aim, samples made of high-strength AISI 4340 alloy steel wer...

The paper deals with the corrosion behavior of stainless steels as candidate materials for biofuel production plants by liquefaction process of the sorted organic fraction of municipal solid waste. Corrosion tests were carried out on AISI 316L and AISI 304L stainless steels at 250 °C in a batch reactor during conversion of raw material to bio-oil (biofuel precursor), by exposing specimens eithe...
